The Unusual Art Sourcing Company – Sound City 2020

Hello again, all you lovely festival goers. Five years, where does the time go? To be honest it probably goes in endless drunken days and nights searching out the best in alternative arts and culture for you lucky lot to enjoy at Sound City so we aren’t going to complain too much.

Anyway, to the job in hand. Sound City is rightly known as the leading festival for hosting great music, both established and emerging. Well from now on, it will also be known for hosting some of the very best alternative theatre around. We have spent many months searching for great new productions. Edinburgh, London, Cardiff, Glastonbury, New York, all visited, and who knew - most of the best stuff was from Liverpool! So we are incredibly proud to be putting on; Murder Ballads by The B Collective, Raves R Us by Naughty Corner Productions and BoJo’s World by Succour Punch Theatre, all of whom are from this fair city. We also cannot forget to mention Wales’s favourite son Rhys Slade-Jones appearing as his alter ego BopaRhys.

Plus, the London based genius that is In Bed With My Brother, quite simply the most exciting, dangerous and talented theatre company working in Britain today.

Well that is a lot! But wait, there’s lots more. Including fantastic poetry and spoken word from the country’s leading poetry event ‘A Lovely Word’. ‘We Want Women’ curating their own segment of female led festival fun, art and culture. We’ve also got a fabulous showcase from Birkenhead’s Eggy Records featuring Beja Flo (with a full band) and Stores. The World’s Smallest Festival Stage is back from it’s North American tour and so will be once again gracing Jamaica Street with it’s presence. And before we forget, an ace exhibition by Cold War Steve, the best political satirist of the moment.

So, theatre, music, comedy, poetry, life drawing, art exhibitions and a hypoallergenic, cruelty free petting zoo, what more could anyone need!

P.S We are also very happy to announce that following Sound City’s lead we have gender parity across both our stages once again this year.
