Park Hotel

Saturday

Park Hotel are a post-electronic dance band based in London. Centred on the creative duo of Tim Abbey and Rebeca Marcos-Rosa they explore the mirrorball-noir territory between alternative arena electronica and wired downtown songwriting. Rebeca is originally from Barcelona; Tim from London. After meeting by chance in early 2016 their second meeting was in a studio, writing together. Taking inspiration from their international relationship, with frequent trips to New York and Spain, the concept of the band took shape as they experimented with dance floor beats, punk and disco.

Through London based rehearsals the band grew into a six piece and started playing under-the-radar shows. By late 2016 their gigs were packed and Park Hotel had become a steamrolling neo-funk live phenomenon featuring three-way vocal harmonies, two guitars, drums, percussion, keyboards and ample cowbell.

The comparisons started to come in, ranging between LCD Soundsystem and Talking Heads, Nile Rogers and Earth Wind and Fire. With the live thing down it was time to enter the studio and in late 2016 the band worked with producer Eliot James on two tracks, 'Gone As A Friend' and 'Going West', handing the files over for mixing to Nathan Boddy and mastering at New York's Sterling Sound.

Featuring supercool boy/girl vocals ‘Gone As A Friend’ was released as part of the Fierce Panda singles club in February 2017. The song was playlisted on Virgin radio and Wonderland Magazine described the band as ‘the hottest new band out there.” The summer of 2017 saw Park Hotel working their way up UK festival billings and playing further hot club shows in London to support the release of their second single ‘Going West’. The accompanying rooftop jam video was filmed in Homerton, but looked like it was shot in Williamsburg, and featured some very fine hat wear form Rebeca.

By late 2017 Park Hotel had come to the attention of disco-chic Paris label Kitsune. Tim and Rebeca had been busy writing and had recorded one of the big moments from their live set ‘Good People, Bad Dreams’. With its super-punchy mix from up coming Italian producer Tomasso, Kitsune picked the track for release via Kitsune Hot Streams and the band booked tickets for their first Paris show, set for Les Bains in late February. 2018 is spinning nicely for them. The NME highlighted Park Hotel as one of the best new bands to look out for: “Gorgeous grooves and hypnotic riffs collide in an oh-so funky cocktail.” There’s a February headline show in London as part of the NME Awards. Summer festivals are looking good. An album of immaculate dance-craft waits in the wings. Reserve rooms early.
