Home Counties — whose members also include guitarist and producer Conor Kearney, bassist Bill Griffin, drummer Dan Hearn, and Barn Peiser Pepin on synths and percussion — made their name with a sound Conor describes as “punky, nine million BPM, get-through-it-as-fast-as-you-can, ramshackle vibes”: social commentary wrapped up in rangy guitar. But over lockdown they began to flirt with something more electronic. They made a couple of songs Will calls “the sound of me trying to work out how to use a synthesiser. But after that we grew more comfortable with writing from an electronic base.”
