Elevant

Where – BIRDIES BAR | Sunday

Elevant are a rock and roll band that can do everything, sometimes within the space of one song.
Since their formation in 2014 they've fused a host of disparate influences into a sound that can be dark and atmospheric, heavy and crushing, or irresistibly grooving. The trio sounds far vaster than the sum of their parts.
Anchored by Tom Shand’s pummelling Bonham-esque beats and Hannah Lodge’s interlocking bassline weaves, lead singer Michael Edward’s lung bursting Chris Cornell-style lead vocals and bludgeoning guitar work make them sound like a six-piece. With prog-like precision and constant genre hopping (which isn’t a case of awkwardly trying their hand at different genres until one clumsily fits; Every stylistic u-turn is fiendishly innovative and inescapably engaging) it’s no wonder the experimental DIY approach they apply to every aspect of their work, works so god damn well.
Now with 3 albums and an EP under their belt on their own label Loner Noise, the band also set up Wrong Festival which breathed new life into the heavier and weirder rock scene in Liverpool, have garnered critical acclaim, particularly for their EP Normal Life and third album There Is A Tide as well as their ferocious live show, and have been playlisted on radio stations worldwide such as KEXP and KCRW in the USA, as well as others in Europe and Australia.
‘Normal Life’ is not something we normally associate with musicians and bands. Elevant, however, are certainly beginning to make the release of challenging and thoroughly enjoyable records look like ‘business as usual’. - Louderthanwar
