Aadae – Debut EP Agape – Out Now

“Aadae already has a clear-cut pop voice with a distinctive afrobeat twist” – The Fader

“Nails a perfect poise between catchy contemporary pop and the classic sound of her Nigerian heritage.” The Line Of Best Fit

“Of the new generation, one of the most compelling artists is Peckham’s Aadae” Notion

Aadae makes music that crosses boundaries.

Born in Nigeria but raised in Peckham, her songwriting speaks of family parties spent listening to high life and Afrobeat, long nights in South London dancing to UK garage, and an innate love of the impact pop songwriting can have.

Following support from 1Xtra, 6Music, The Fader, The Line Of Best Fit, and more, debut EP ‘Agape’ will be released on November 3rd and it crosses several continents to deliver something laced with colour, life, and energy.

Opening and closing with samples of a Yoruba church service in rural Nigeria, Aadae focusses on worship in all its forms. ‘Flat Line (Make Me Lose My Mind)’ is perfectly formed, a piece of Afro-centric future soul that recalls everyone from Jessie Ware to Erykah Badu.

‘Die Happy’ is a complex, interweaving ballad, a show-piece for Aadae’s ineffable voice and her broad, wonderfully mature songwriting. ‘River Of Tears’ spearheads the project, uniting West African tradition with London street culture to craft something entirely unique.

A globe-trotting talent with a magpie-like sense for aural jewels, Aadae sits alongside anyone from Fela Kuti to M.I.A., Santigold to Little Dragon.

“I describe my sound as a pop-lover’s take on the classic afrobeat form,” Aadae says. “It was always important to me that my music told my story. Whatever I do has to represent my British upbringing as well as my Nigerian heritage.”
