PRS Foundation is the UK’s leading charitable funder of new music and talent development.

Since its creation in 2000, PRS Foundation has given more than £44 million in impactful and timely grants to over 8,500 new music initiatives. Last year 9 out of the 12 Mercury Prize 2022 nominees had received vital PRS Foundation grant support, including the winner Little Simz, supported through PPL Momentum Music Fund – which this year celebrates it’s tenth anniversary!

PPL Momentum Accelerator was launched as a pilot in Liverpool in 2019 and now runs in Liverpool City Region, Yorkshire and Wales. PPL Momentum Accelerator is a targeted scheme to support the development of outstanding artists and bands who are writing their own music, and future Industry Professionals, outside London who face additional barriers in reaching a crucial career tipping point based on their location.

SPINN (PPL Momentum Music Fund)

SPINN were awarded the PPL Momentum Fund in 2022 to facilitate the recording, mixing and marketing of the band's third album at Elevator Studios in Liverpool with Tom Longworth and to allow the band to tour 2,000-3,000 capacity venues with a larger band in throughout the UK. This was set to follow the release of the band's second album 'Outside Of The Blue' allowing them to follow-up quickly on the momentum of the release of the second album order to reach the tipping point of the band's success with their third LP.

ELANOR MOSS (PPL Momentum Music Fund)

Growing up in the fens of Lincolnshire before moving to Yorkshire to study Medieval Literature, Elanor Moss is one of Britain’s most exciting emerging songwriters. After a period quietly working on her own music while writing and collaborating behind the scenes with artists including Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Howl & The Hum, Memorial and Rosie Carney,

Moss decided it was at last time to share her autobiographical, sideways-folk-rock music with the world. With an eye for moments that matter and a knack for nuance, these tracks quietly demanded attention. Working with Oli Deakin (CMAT, Lowpines) on her debut EP 'Citrus', the record found its way to Blue Raincoat Music (Phoebe Bridgers, Cigarettes After Sex, Arlo Parks) who quickly began working with Moss on its release. Following the release of the ‘Citrus’ EP in spring 2022, Moss has found herself championed and playlisted across BBC 6 Music, on tour opening for artists like Christian Lee Hutson, CMAT, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Cassandra Jenkins and performing on the stages of festivals including Green Man, Deer Shed, How The Light Gets In, Gold Sounds, Pitchfork London & Mutations.

Amidst all this, she did a couple stints in Brooklyn to record her second EP ‘Cosmic’, set for release in Feb 2023.

The PPL Momentum Fund supported Elanor for her current first headline tour across the UK.

PISS KITTY (PPL Momentum Accelerator Liverpool)

Referred to by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music as “Transgressive Liverpool gender outlaws”, Piss Kitti have gained popularity in major cities across the UK and beyond, and their captivating live shows have landed them support slots alongside artists such as Dream Wife and Amyl and the Sniffers. Starting out as a garage punk band writing short aggressive songs, their sound has developed to more melodic and well polished, as heard in the tracks featured on their 2021 debut EP, ‘For The Lovers’ - a collection of self confessed love songs rooted in romantic turmoil.

“They are a true reflection of what youth culture is like today: it’s gender-bending, it’s feminist, its ambiguous, it’s angry, it’s fun, it’s emotional, it’s making a statement yet, not taking yourself too seriously, it’s about breaking rules to create a better future even if that isn’t intentional and it’s Piss Kitti who are taking the torch and running with it”
They have had a very strong start to 2023 having signed to Marshall Live Agency and also Venn Records. They have recently gained radio plays on John Kennedy's 'X-POSURE' on RADIO X, BBC6 Music, Kerrang! Radio and Australian National Radio station TRIPLE J, a pioneer for alternative music. Piss Kitti will be writing and recording their debut album set to release late 2023 on Venn Records.

Through the evaluation of our PPL Momentum Music Fund and evidence from thousands of applications PRS Foundation receives each year, we identified talent pipeline gaps across the UK. Many music creators show strong musical potential but are unable to capitalise upon this due to financial barriers, gaps in regional infrastructure, knowledge, advice, and access to industry platforms.
PPL Momentum Accelerator’s long-term approach supports the development of these outstanding artists and bands outside London, with partners providing support for a number of future industry professionals such as managers, promoters, record labels, music publishers, booking agents, to bolster regional scenes across the UK.
