2020 Launch artists hit the ground running

Artists from Sound City’s 2020 Launch programme didn’t let the pandemic slow them down at the end of last year, with plenty of great activity to shout about.

That's Juvey? is a developing creative writer and conceptual artist from West Cheshire. He puts creative rap lyrics to boom bap beats produced by Pro P and has various songs on YouTube that in total have acquired half a million views. His track, We Can, was selected for a new Liverpool FC documentary called The End Of The Storm, released on the 30th November 2020.

Songwriter LYDIAH had a particularly strong end to the year thanks to one of her songs, I Eden. The track won the Tune Into Nature Music Prize – an arts prize designed to help foster a closer relationship with nature, and one that has the backing of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Selfridges and Tileyard London.

As well as picking up a prize of £1,000, the win saw LYDIAH record the track at Tileyard London at the end of September, and it was subsequently played at Selfridges London between 3 -10 October.

LYDIAH also performed as part of last year’s virtual Sound City Korea showcase in November.

Another Launch artist to take advantage of Sound City’s ties to Asia was Molly Green. The singer/songwriter – who’s currently studying music at LIPA – has already performed at Boomtown, two sold out headline shows at the Cavern Club and across multiple venues in Liverpool, Manchester and Bristol. She added the Zandari Festa Sound City showcase to that list in October.

Sound City’s Launch partner CAPLL Ltd staged a number of takeover shows on Sound City’s own Guesthouse platform between August and November last year, with L’Nee Golay, Tomike, Nikki & The Waves, Molly Green, Daddy and The Mysterines all performing shows.

Tomike, Nikki & The Waves, Molly Green, LYDIAH, The Sway and Weezy have all released new music since being announced as Launch artists, while The Sway are also set to release a new track on Modern Sky in February.

Sound City’s Launch programme, in partnership with CAPLL Ltd, helps artists over a 12-month period with recording and releasing music; funding; tour management; marketing and PR; personal development; and the transition to treating their band and brand as a business.

Sound City measures and evaluates each act’s progression, documenting their journey and showcasing it to the company’s more than 150,000 followers online.

Artists are also given the opportunity to play international showcases, as well as Sound City Liverpool and other Sound City UK events.
