BLOSSOM CALADRONE

‘Waxing Lyrical’ is the new single from London-based songwriter, cellist and multi-instrumentalist Blossom Caldarone, out today via Nice Swan. The single, which received its premiere from Huw Stephens on BBC 6Music and was subsequently played by Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 was recorded at Middle Farm Studios in Devon with Pat Pearson (Daughter, Brooke Bentham) and captures Blossom’s distinctive ability to turn personal chaos into something both deeply human and irresistibly melodic.

A diarist at heart, Blossom writes to make sense of the world around her — documenting experiences rather than getting stuck in them. ‘Waxing Lyrical’ is a tongue-in-cheek reflection on over-analysing a relationship long after it’s ended, transforming heartbreak into something theatrical, witty and quietly cathartic. Speaking about the single, Blossom says

“Waxing Lyrical got its name because I'm literally sick of talking about the situation, and the person I wrote it about loved the sound of their own voice - like actually wouldn’t stop.

Imagine it’s summer, you’re in a hot, sticky flat and you’re getting to know someone and they’re driving you mad, but you can’t leave each other alone. I’m singing about that sort of chaos. It makes me laugh now, I love it.”

A classically trained musician, Blossom has collaborated with The Big Moon, Black Midi, English Teacher, Maya Delilah and Prima Queen, while continuing to carve out a world entirely her own. Her music has been championed across BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing , Amazing Radio, Foundation.fm, Absolute Radio (Frank Skinner), and Hoxton Radio, alongside features in Clash, i-D and Dork.

Citing influences that span Rufus Wainwright, Lily Allen, Regina Spektor and Karen Carpenter, Blossom’s songwriting sits somewhere between the theatrical and the confessional — a place where humour, heartbreak and honesty coexist, all filtered through her diaristic lens.
